The Last Slice of Cake
My publication design project, a personal exploration of "threshold" and the objects we hold onto, embodies my creative process and unwavering commitment to self-driven projects.
I began by meticulously curating 500 images, each printed in thumbnail size. Through a multi-day process of categorization and selection, I challenged myself to distill these images to a single favorite. The chosen image, a photograph of my birthday cake ablaze with candles, ignited a deeper exploration of memory, personal narratives, and the objects we hold dear.
As I delved into recording stories from my favorite day of each year, a recurring pattern emerged: the "last slice of cake," a symbol of my tendency to hold onto things, even when it may seem logical to let them go. This realization inspired me to study the objects I've kept, their stories, and the thresholds they represent.
In this publication, I meticulously curated the content, from writing and photography to material selection, digital illustrations and bookbinding. My commitment to complete creative ownership allowed me to fully realize my vision, resulting in a unique and personal exploration of a universal human experience.
This project showcases my ability to draw inspiration from personal experiences, translate those insights into compelling narratives, and execute creative projects with meticulous attention to detail. My passion for exploring unconventional ideas and crafting meaningful visual experiences makes me a valuable asset to any design team.
